This nuanced peated malt series bears the fitting name 'Tainted Love,' inspired by our passion for smoky whisky and 80's music!
Consisting of three exquisitely limited single malt cask releases, each bottle presents a delicately smoky dram meticulously crafted to awaken the senses. Serving as an ideal introduction to peat in your whisky journey, these expressions boast elegance and balance. As the peat intensifies with each variant, this series promises a journey that's both mentally stimulating and sensorially captivating.
NOSE
Rich earthy tones of peat blend harmoniously with delicate floral notes and a hint of sea spray.
PALATE
A light rich spirit with layers of smoky maple bacon on crispy sugary pancake edges, and peach marmalade.
FINISH
A lingering finish reminiscent of ginger snap biscuits, with varied layers of sweet smokiness, candied sugar coating the back palate.
THE INSPIRATION
Our journey to Islay off the coast of Scotland back in 2016, where we explored every distillery possible, laid the groundwork for this experimental series. It's a tribute to the Scottish pioneers who crafted the rich flavours of whisky using their abundant natural resource: peat bogs.
PEATED MALT
The smoke imbues phenols production with ash, iodine, and smoky flavours that are absorbed by the grains. Time (usually about 30 hours) and intensity of exposure to the peat smoke, as well as the characteristics of the peat itself, influence the final aroma.
We imported Crisp heavily peated malt 50ppm to craft the Tainted Love Series.
MATURATION
A classic combination in ex-bourbon American oak casks. However, we opted for second-fill ex-bourbon casks, older in age. This decision ensures the peat and malt flavours shine through, without being overshadowed by the woody American oak.

What is the alcohol percentage of Manly Spirits' Whisky?
During the distillation process, the alcohol selected for our whisky has a strength of 65-70% ABV. Once matured, this number will likely reduce to between 40-58%, prior to the whisky being bottled and ready to drink.

How do I pick whisky to buy online?
Once our whiskies reach their final stages of maturation, our expert distilling team will use special techniques to create new and interesting variants, ready for tasting. Some of these will first appear at the tasting bar at our distillery and will then perhaps make it into our permanent range.
